„Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D“ wird am 74. Venedig Filmfestival erstmals gezeigt. Mittels der originalen 35mm-Filmnegativen haben Optimum Productions und John Landis den legendären Clip in einem intensiven Prozess in 3D transferiert und die Audio-Spuren aufgewertet.
Der von John Landis gedrehte 14 minütige „Thriller“-Clip wurde im Jahr 1983 für drei Wochen im Avco Theater in Los Angeles gezeigt. Michael Jackson wollte einen Film im Stil von John Landis Sämtliche Vorstellungen waren ausverkauft. Heute ist der revolutionäre Streifen als einziger Musikfilm im National Film Registry vom Library of Congress aufgenommen.
Zur Neuauflage in 3D sagt John Landis: “I am so happy to have had the chance not only to restore but enhance Michael Jackson’s Thriller! We took full advantage of the remarkable advances in technology to add new dimensions to both the visual and the audio bringing it to a whole new level. Even though Thriller was shot traditionally, I was able to use the 3-D creatively. Let me just warn you, there is a rather shocking surprise in there!”
In Venedig wird nebst Thriller 3D auch das Making-Of von Thriller gezeigt, das zwischen 1983 und 1990 auf VHS erhältlich war.
